Duke TSA was established by a relatively small number of students in 1994 to raise awareness about modern Turkish Republic in the Duke Community and in the Triangle area. Over the years, we have grown into one of the largest student associations at Duke University with over 50 members. Our main purpose is to unite the Turkish people at Duke by providing a medium for support and communication among members. It is important to cherish that sense of familiality which comes from sharing a common nationality and culture. Moreover, we deem it our duty to raise awareness about the history and culture of the modern Republic of Turkey. Being in a foreign country and indulging in a certain level of exchange, requires that we represent ourselves responsibly and accurately.

Our extended family includes Turkish student associations in NC State and UNC, along with Turkish families that live in the Triangle area and are members of the ATA-NC.

Usually, in order to bring Turks at Duke together we gather at the International House at least once a year. Twice a year we throw off campus parties open to all, during which Turkish music is played. Once a year, we put on a “Turkish Night” on Duke’s campus during which we explain our culture extending from history to Turkish cuisine and music. In addition, we organize other social or academic events which vary from year to year.
